Artist Residency

In 2018, I was chosen to participate in “Awakening,” a ten day thematic residency focused on Earth-based spirituality and art. The program took place at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island in Toronto, Ontario.

Beach with sandy shore, gentle waves, overcast sky, and a small tree in the distance.
Collection of nature-themed photographs displayed on a beige surface, surrounded by natural objects such as stones, branches, a feather, a pine cone, and a rock, creating a nature-inspired setup.
A campfire on sandy ground surrounded by small and large rocks, with wood logs burning and a person sitting nearby.
A rustic outdoor altar with fruits and minerals on a lace doily, including pomegranate, apples, two green osage oranges, a piece of salt rock, and various gemstones, set against tree bark and grass.

Ritual

I worked with multidisciplinary community-based artist, Mike Durkin, for the “Collision” component of his MFA at Pig Iron Iron Theater Company/University of the Arts. This project explored intersections between performance and non-performative artistic endeavors. We spent two months in the Fall of 2017 creating a synthesis between spiritual practice, performance, and nature work.

The work culminated in a community presentation at Batram's Garden in West Philadelphia.

A large tree with a thick trunk and sprawling branches with leaves, set against a sunset sky. The scene is outdoors with grasses and bushes, and there are water bottles, a basket, and a cup on a surface at the bottom of the image.

Unconventional Community Collaboration

Telegraphic Tree was chosen to be the unconventional community collaborator for the production of Beowulf/Grendel, co-created and directed by Maura Krause & Renegade Theater. The performance took place in the historic Mt. Moriah Cemetery (2016).

I served as the Sensory Designer. We gathered mugwort from the site which I dried and made into smudge bundles to burn during the performance. I also crafted an herbal tea blend which was served to attendees at the end of the show.
